Learning from Lumos UK
The Lumos UK Capacity Building Programme is a cross-sector initiative designed to strengthen organisational resilience through justice-focused and trauma-informed approaches. Centred on the Lumos Resilience Toolkit, it equips staff with practical, accessible methods to stabilise stress, build internal resources, and cultivate healthier, more sustainable ways of working. The programme connects organisations across the UK that are committed to Justice orientated action, compassionate practice, collaboration, and supporting people and communities with dignity and care.

“We need resources to do systems change, and that includes deadline with our own hard and reducing harm to others”
_____________
We joined the programme earlier this year because we want to model a future where healing is collective and liberation is for everyone - this is core to our approach to systems transformation. We recognise how essential it is to be resourced with strong internal practices that help us manage stress, stay grounded, and remain well-equipped to work alongside young people, communities, and partner organisations.
Our entire team took part in the training, and now Elise on our team is becoming a fully accredited Lumos Resilience Toolkit facilitator - so she can continue to support us to embed the toolkit into our everyday practice. Elise has found the collaborative learning process inspiring, and has learnt so much from others on the course and has built a supportive network of peers. She has been amazed by the impact of simple stabilising practices on her own stress levels and is excited to embed the toolkit within MAC and bring its benefits into our work with the people and communities we work alongside.
