Music & Change was the founding project of MAC-UK and the pioneering project for our Integrate model. Back in 2008 our MAC-UK founder and CEO, Dr. Charlie Howard (formerly Alcock), knew that there must be a better way of getting mental health support to excluded young people. Crucially, Charlie wanted it to emerge from them.
Charlie hung out at a fish and chip shop for six months until members of a local gang asked her what she was doing. She introduced herself and explained she needed their help. What emerged was a model that put mental health workers at the heart of activities which were led by the young people themselves: the Integrate model.
Based in Camden, our Music & Change project was the innovation hub of MAC-UK and Integrate, acting as a focal point for evolving and sharing new learning about how Integrate works, underpinned by a solid evidence base.
Music & Change has now evolved into the Integrate Development Project, who are currently focussed on disseminating learning and strategic development of the next steps for the Integrate model. You can read the Integrate Development Project’s blog here
